IRVINE, Calif. — Saleen, an internationally known specialty vehicle manufacturer, is proud to have among its 2001 lineup the sophisticated and powerful, yet affordable, Saleen Mustang S281.

     The 2001 Saleen S281 sports a 4.6 liter, 2V modular engine with a standard output of 285 hp.  Saleen uses a new premium fuel calibration, special underdrive pulleys and a new exhaust system.  For 2001, the optional Saleen "Roots" Supercharger boosts power to 365 hp, a 15 horsepower increase over last year's model.  The S281 is certified to meet model year 2001 low emission vehicle standards (LEV)

     For 2001, a new hood design distinguishes the S281 along with a striking list of new colors including Speedlab Yellow, Saleen S7 Silver, Lizstick Red, Pearl White, Stealth Black, Beryllium, Victory Blue and Bright Signature Red.

     The S281 also offers a refined Saleen Racecraft suspension and Saleen 18 in. wheels as standard equipment.  As with all Saleens, the 2001 Saleen S281 features an engine bay plaque and serialized console plaque that verify its authenticity as a true Saleen vehicle.

     Tests have shown the base model S281 to reach 60 miles per hour in just 5.2 seconds with a quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds at 98 miles per hour.  The supercharged S281 does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds.
